Division(Irrigation)as on 31-3-2001 is 10,061 hect. in terms of N.I.A.&
14,392 hect in terms of A.I.A.
Due
to non availability of sufficient budgetary allocation for the last couples of
years programme under World Bank N.L.C.P. and A.I.P.P.has been taken up for
renovation rehabilitation of existing and ongoing irrigation scheme of this
Division.The programmes ae as follows.
It may be stated that flood damaged many schemes approximately in every year. Most of the area in the district are lqwlying .Its ground level is well below the high flood level of the mighty Brahmaputra and as such it is chromically flood affected one. Most of the aschemes have suffered onsleught of several waves of flood every year and they could not be restored fully due to paurity of fund.
Most of the schemes are electrically operated schemes But the state has been passing through acute power crisis. As such due to frequent power failure and due to low votage the pump could not be operated as per requirement causing less utilisation of irrigation water. So shortage of power is another constraint affecting irrigation projects.
However all posible steps are being taken up from this end within the limitted fund alloted for keeping the schemes in operationable condition, so that irrigation water could be provided to the cultivators at least in the peak period crop season.
